The QPW file extensions labels a file that has been created by Quattro Pro. Quattro Pro is sold by Corel and was created by Borland. You can find this programmed bundled with the WordPerfect Office suite. If you have users that are using WordPerfect they can create QPW files if they are saving them as a spreadsheet file.
Quattro was originally shipped in 1989 and has been one of the most stable and successful spreadsheet programs ever made. Excel, and to a lesser degree Lotus 1-2-3 were its major competition. The original program was a DOS spreadsheet and by todays standards would be considered to be simplistic at best. However at the time the program was cutting edge and received rave reviews upon its release. As Windows grew in popularity Quattro was ported over to this environment as well. This is where the QPW file extension was born – Quattro Pro for Windows, or QPW.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:
I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

This program had two things that were major revolutions for spreadsheet programs. First it was the first Windows sheet with different pages and cells that could be linked together. Next it was the first Windows program to have a drop down attribute menu that appeared when right clicked. This has become standard in most Windows operations today. These early successes would not continue for long as eventually Novell ran into trouble and Quattro fell out of favor with the majority of Windows users. Most began to use Microsoft's own Excel product.

Today you may run into the QPW file format in older antiquated Novell Netware systems as well as older Windows based platforms. Any of the Excel programs from the late nineties on are able to open and read the QPW format so if you have this program you should be able to read the spreadsheet files no problem. Most of the functionality that was in Quattro is easily portable over to Excel so all of the functions and formats of the QPW files should come over easily. You should be able to bring the files into Excel and then send them back out in XLS format without any issues. In additions you can combine multiple spreadsheets from Quattro files into a single workbook.
Going the other way can be a bit more problematic, but should not cause to much of an issue. If you have someone for whatever reason that wants to use Quattro you can simply take the Excel files and export them to QPW. There may be some functionality that is lost especially in some of the more complex pivot table databases for Excel. If they simply need to just write up balance sheets and the like this should not be a problem to set up for them.
Another program option outside of Excel is OpenOffice. This is a free program that can open just about any database and spreadsheet file. Included with it is a spreadsheet that can open and view QPW files. It can not however export them. The really great thing about OpenOffice is that it is an open source program you can download and start using for no cost. I use OpenOffice for most of my day to day spreadsheet and Word functions.
It is probably going to be rare that you are going to see a QPW file, but if you do all you need to know is that it is a spreadsheet. Most spreadsheet programs should be able to read the file no problem, but exporting back out to the QPW format may be a bit difficult. Primarily these files show up on early to mid 90s workstations and systems. If the computer is running Quattro Pro you probably will run into this file type. Just load up your spreadsheet program, probably Excel, and see if you can bring the file in. If you can not, go get a copy of OpenOffice and bring it in that way. For the most part there is nothing overly complicated with the QPW file format that would confuse any spreadsheet program too much. Antiquated and out of date yes, confusing no.
